In the early 1800s, English Bulldogs were used to fight bulls for sport. This was abolished later on and the populace turned to ‘ratting’. A cruel sport where Bulldogs were put in pits with rats to see how many they could kill. This sport required more agility and speed from the dogs which led to the crossing of Bulldogs with Terriers. This cross gave birth to the Pit Bull Terrier. Subsequently, Pit Bulls became popular for their aggressiveness and violence. In an attempt to change the image, the American Kernel Club rebranded the Pit Bull as the Staffordshire Terrier or the Staffordshire Terrier.

Nowadays, Pit Bull is a family name for the following dogs:

Factors affecting the price of a bull

Various factors affect the price of a Pit Bull such as:

The Sub-breed of the Pit Bull: Pit Bulls have been cross-bred to accentuate certain features. Prague Pit Bulls are generally more expensive than American Staffordshire Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers are more expensive than Pit Bull Terriers. The Ancestry of the Pit Bull: The ancestor of a dog refers to who gave birth to it. So, Pit Bulls who were given birth to by popular ancestors are generally more expensive than others.   Some popular Pit Bull lineages are Hulk Pit Bulls, Colby Pit Bulls, etc. The Breeder: Just as Dominos Pizzas are more expensive than homemade pizzas. Popular breeders price their dogs differently. In such as case, you are not only buying a dog, you are also buying a brand. The Appearance of the Pit Bull: Pit Bulls with certain colors are more expensive than others. The appearance does not have to do with only the color, the height, the build, the nose color, and the coat color also affect the price. Where the Pit Bull is bought:  The price of a Pit Bull in America will be different from the price of the same Pit Bull in New Zealand.  Gender: Generally, female dogs tend to be costlier than male dogs simply because a female dog can give birth to more dogs. Breeders take that into account and raise the price of female dogs. Vaccination Status: Whether, a Pit Bull is fully vaccinated or not will also affect its price. However, it is common practice for breeders to vaccinate their puppies before selling them.

Recently, there has been a progressive shift in the way people view Pit Bulls. Pit Bulls are playful and affectionate animals and can be very loyal and obedient if trained properly but they need to be exercised regularly. However, some still see bulldogs as extremely violent dogs because of their strength and this needs to change!  If you want to buy a Dog, you need to carefully consider what type of dog you want and why you want to want it. You also need to be able to take care of it properly. Different dogs require different methods of training and care.
