There is no denying what a huge hit Netflix’s Love is Blind is with reality TV fans. The biggest surprise though is that it was filmed all the way back in 2018.

Love is Blind followed singles as they met anonymously in individual pods where they were unable to see one another. The idea being, of course, that they would connect without physical appearance playing a factor. Fans were brought along on this journey as each single narrowed his or her potential matches down and had more in-depth conversations and longer dates in the pods until some decided to get engaged. Yes, get engaged to someone they’d never seen. While that sounds crazy, they did then get the chance to meet in person and go on an extended vacation, a pre-wedding honeymoon if you will, together to see how they connected in person. The couples who made it through this process and still wanted to remain together then went back home to Atlanta. Here the real world came into play as they got to know each other’s friends and families and got to see each other’s homes and learn more about their real-world lives.

At the end of this process, the remaining couples planned a wedding. At the altar, they made their final decision by dramatically saying I do or I do not. Not the typical wedding process, but definitely a nail biter for those witnessing it. However, this is where the craziest part actually began for those involved. They now had to keep that information secret until the show aired. The show filmed in from September to November of 2018. It aired in February 2020. That means that for a year and a half they had to keep their marriage, or non-marriage, or new relationships, on the down-low. This was no easy task, as many found out with fans picking apart every social media post of not only the cast but those close to them. Despite the weddings being on the smaller side, that was still a lot of people in the five weddings combined that Netflix had to count on not to spill the beans before the finale.

This is nothing short of a Herculean task in a world where social media displays every detail of someone’s life. The two couples who said “I do” worked hard to hide their year and a half long relationships. Amber and Barnett both posted pics of a trip to Italy but they did so weeks apart. This wasn’t enough to fool fans of the show who noted this instantly. Cameron seemed to do a great job by not posting much and keeping it just himself. This strategy didn’t work as well for his wife Lauren though because fans quickly noticed those pictures of just her happened to be taken in a home that was previously just his. For the couples who didn’t stay together, it was a little easier, since they didn’t have a relationship to hide but they did have to avoid posting anything of any new relationships they may have been in.

With season 2 casting soon, it will hopefully not be so long before it airs. Not just so the participants don’t have to hide so much of their lives for so long, but also because fans really don’t want to wait that long. Either way fans are thrilled to know there is still more Love is Blind in the near future. There is still a reunion show yet to air that will surely hold lots of gossip and updates on everything your favorite cast member has been up to since 2018. That will have to do for now, but the show’s throngs of fans are not going to be happy if they have to wait until 2022 for more Love is Blind. And for Netflix, that’s a good thing.
